About James J. Pierce
James J. Pierce is an Associate at The Miller Law Firm. His practice focuses on commercial litigation.
From 2023 to 2025, Mr. Pierce practiced at as a litigator at a large Detroit-based law firm. There, he successfully represented business entities in a broad range of commercial matters, including complex breach of contract actions, real estate and construction disputes, and matters involving financial fraud.
Mr. Pierce grew up in metro-Detroit and attended University of Detroit Jesuit High School. Afterwards, he went to James Madison College at Michigan State University, where he graduated in 2020 With Honor and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations. While at MSU, he was a member of Psi Upsilon and served as its Vice President.
After college, Mr. Pierce attended the University of Minnesota Law School as a Dean’s Distinguished Scholar. While at Minnesota, he was an active member of the Business Law Association and a managing editor of the Minnesota Journal of International Law. He graduated from Minnesota cum laude in 2023.
Mr. Pierce is an active member of the Detroit Bar Association and its Barrister’s section. He regularly volunteers for the Association’s annual Law Day event at the 3rd Circuit Court in Detroit, where he works with high school students and teaches them about the practice of law. In his spare time, Mr. Pierce enjoys watching football with his family, golfing, and playing with his dog.
Mr. Pierce is admitted to practice law in the State of Michigan as well as the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
